It likely isn't true. If I could go back, I would start with this one.
Not bad for price. Thats the one I am looking at. big IF though if I buy one.

Anyone use a synthetic brush?
Looking to buy one but waiting for more feedback. I just cant see paying $100-200 + for a top end badger brush.
Want a bigger one though. I have a small entry level cheapo. Feels about as good as a paint brush on my face.
To whoever asked about brush care after shaves. Hang upside down from rack. Take them into the shower with you and wash the brush like your hair. Using same shampoo etc. It is hair you are washing so it makes sense.

I just started shaving with a DE safety razor last week, and MY LORD it is awesome! I got the Parkour 99R long handle extra heavy razor, an assorted pack of blades, edwin jagger best badger brush (i think it was recommended here), proraso shaving cream and soap (sensitive), and proraso pre-shave (sensitive). I used some leftover grooming lounge aftershave that I've had- I highly recommend it for those who havent tried it.
It probably took me 30 minutes the first time, as I was scared to death. I have a rather thick beard and usually have trouble on my chin and neck. I was so nervous the first pass, but the razor (shark chrome) worked like a hot knife through butter. My first shave I only did with the grain and it was still closer than any cartridge i've used- and i didnt even cut myself. I have since started going across the grain with no major issues yet. However, I did have a major cut on the chin once, but no razor burn.
