Why doesn't Louisiana really have it's own barbecue culture?

Would a legit barbecue place in BR or NOLA do well? I'm talking award winning, not Voodoo or TJ's or something like that.

I've said this for a few years now. I think a place like coopers in either br or Nola would do very well.

The Joint is pretty good.

I did BBQ in Prairieville, it did pretty good. Then I went and got a real job.

Because we a seafood culture that cannot be topped by any state! I'd rather have seafood culture over Bbq any day. Being able to eat a fresh shrimp poboy tops eating Bbq any day. You don't appreciate it unless you live somewhere else!

I would be down for this, I love voodoo, but I see what you mean about a signature, award winning joint. What characteristics would you apply to "Louisiana BBQ"?

Because BBQ sucks

That BBQ place that just opened up right next to George's is pretty good.

I have always wondered this too

I have eaten Dreamland , Corky's, and County Line ( not sure if any are award winning) and TJ Ribs is as good as any of them, probably better.
Podnuhs has good BBQ.
Of all the places that have great BBQ do any have great seafood options? FTR I think Memphis & KC have best BBQ...Texas BBQ sucks.

cochon de lait is definitely a unique louisiana take on BBQ. i do agree with you though, i am surprised that the cajuns don't have their own sauce or anything else to go with it. but damn a cochon de lait sandwich with stubbs.

Haven't read the whole thread but all of you BBQ lovers need to come to New Orleans for the Hogs for The Cause event out at City Park.
If you can't find some BBQ out there that you like, you probably have no taste

I have always wondered that. I make a damn good slab of ribs and I plan on entering some tournaments once Im out of school. When I win, I will open up some good places in the state.

BBQ is easily one of the worst things about southern culture and I'm actually a lil proud Louisiana has never embraced it.
HEY YAWL LETS OVERCOOK SOME shite AND SLATHER IT WITH SOME PANCAKE SYRUPY SWEET shite
Nothing like visiting my Texas relatives to be greeted with semi-burned shite covered in sugary sauce. Southern by the grace of God yawl
