True.

But we can fix it if we just throw more money at public schools, right?

Some might call them smart. They have figured out a way to vote themselves gifts and get other's to pay for them.

Ah, so you've seen the movie Idiocracy. It explains everything about our future.

A second problem is the belief that the lazy and stupid people are on the other side.

It would not say this is the root cause of the current state of the union though it is certainly one of the symptoms. I would suggest that there are multiple root causes:

1. To a large extent, our nation is a victim of it's own success. This is not unlike the comments by A.J. McCarron cited on the SECrant basically saying that success led to a feeling of entitlement and complacency.

2. The liberal progressive movement in our nation, while arguably accomplishing some positive things in terms of social equality, has also contributed to entitlement mentality and lack of work ethic. Previous generations in the U.S. had to work very hard just to have enough food on the table while today even the lowest tier of society are pretty darn comfortable without having to work. In short, too many of our people have lost the incentive/drive to succeed/achieve.

False. Even if they were all brilliant, when near half of them are COMPLETELY not on the hook for new ideas for spending income tax revenue, then you'll get the results we get.

Even among smart people, goodies at no expense are pretty popular.

And I take back my true. It is true that a sinfucant amount are stupid or lazy, but it is far from the root of all problems.
