As of this summer:

All-State
Farm Bureau
and I contacted a broker for quotes too.

Allstate was the cheapest with the best coverage. Had to group my auto with them, but whatever. They were cheaper than my previous carrier (Farm Bureau) in that department too.

ETA: last time I checked State Farm wasn't writing policies.

to insurance companies and home owners policies in LA.

It was about hell last year trying to get a policy for my house, between having an older house, a "dangerous" breed dog, and being in LA. It was basically a losing battle.

And frick State Farm. They lost my business when they would only write LA Citizens even though I had a car and house policy with them. They also quoted me one price on my car insurance, then charged me a higher price. frick them.

Is this really a limited thing? Are current owners at risk of losing their policy?

I have State Farm and don't recall any trouble when I was shopping around. They are reasonably priced (basically same as Farm Bureau when I shopped), and when my home recently caught on fire, I was more than impressed with their response.

Here's my deal, I was dropped from State Farm because I made 2 claims within a 3 year period. Had I known I would have been dropped, I would have never made a 2nd claim.

Lesson to everyone--don't make 2 claims within a 3 year period.
