Didn't want to hijack the Tacoma thread. Background. Been driving a company truck for almost 20 years. It's either been a Chevy 3/4 ton 4WD or a Z71 1/2 ton. Usually get a new one every 2 to 3 years. Chevy's have been good to me. I am in the pipeline business and I am not bashful about going down a muddy arse ROW. So, was informed yesterday that managers are about to be given truck pay and they can buy their own vehicles. Kinda like a kid in a candy store now. I have always been intrigued with Tundras.

What does the OB say on the Tundra and yes, I am considering a Ford as well, but not a King Ranch.

Built tough. Many upgrades over the big three such as a huge rear differential,4 piston brake calipers, bad arse transmission.

It does suffer from bad fuel mileage thought but you're going to be filling up on the company dime no?

I mean, look at the damn brakes on those things.

Tundra is awesome. I drove them all when deciding to buy. 30k miles in a year and a half and no issues at all. The drivetrain is a monster

I have an '08 with 170k miles no problems, minimum preventative maintenance. I would buy again unless some major problems had popped up between models from my last purchase...

Love mine and I have been down MILES and MILES of gravel and dirt turnrows, levee's, fields, you name it.

I only have drawbacks, fuel milage, but I knew that was gonna be that way, and the skid pans on mine were weak as crap if you are truly gonna be offroad in it.

I've replaced the front one twice and torn away part of the one under my gas tank.

Louisiana Delta is not terribly friendly to trucks.

I have one. It's great.

I've also had Fords and Chevrolets. The Ford is a better offroad truck. It will go places the Toyota won't. That being said, the Ford's computer may shut you down way the frick back in the woods, or the door handle will fall off, or the radio will refuse to turn off, or the windows won't roll up, or the tailgate will fall off, or the glovebox screws will fall out, or something else will break, while the Tundra keeps on trucking.

Good luck.

I have a 2010 double-cab 2wd. Love it but thinking of trading in and getting a 4 door jeep since work is about to give me a new quad cab dodge 4wd (with gas included). I got a ridiculous deal on mine otherwise I would never have bought a 2wd. Back story we helped a friend's son in law get out of a vehicle that they could not afford. Only thing I would change is I would get the full size double cab(mega i think) and 4wd. I have the small 4.8 v8. Gas mileage averages around 15 city/18 highway. My lead foot days are over though. My buddy is on his second TRD 4wd Tundra and loves it. For what it is worth, both he and I drove 4wd Lariat F150s for 5 1/2 years at our old job. And I had a Lariat 4wd Quad cab between my Tacoma and my Tundra. I also had Chevrolet LTZ quad cab rentals for a 1.5 years as a contractor at my last job. The chevys seem to have a smaller cab area and cheaper interior. Although I drive my wife's 2011 Qx56, and the interior in it will embarass most trucks.

I have a 2014 Crew cab. I fricking love this truck. My wife bought it for me for Christmas as a surprise and I had no idea. I never even mentioned getting a new truck but have been thinking about silverado. Glad I didn't say anything about it because I'm so much happier with my tundra. It gets better gas mileage than I thought it was and the new body style doesn't feel like its as heavy as the previous one. I'm not sure how the weights compare but it's a nice riding truck.

I had a 07 Tundra up until abou 15 months ago. It was the best truck I ever had. Way better tan the Chevrolet I'm driving now. It was a beast. Only draw backs were it want very good off road because it was so big and heavy and gas mileage sucked.

I drive a 2003 Toyota Tundra V8 4.7L 4x4 TRD Off-Road with 205,000.

Got it with 133,000 about three years ago.

Never had any major problem, outside of what I would consider routine maintenance.

It's my baby.

As I cruise down the I-10 and look down, I find myself driving over 100 mph all the time. Feels like I'm driving on air. Smooth as hell but definitely sucks up plenty of gas.

Buddy of mine always has different Tundras (family owns dealerships) and he loves them. He's currently in a 2014 Tundra 1794 edition and I must admit it is a very very nice truck. It's the Tundra's King Ranch equivalent...pretty sweet rig, and definitely not lacking in tech to whoever it was that said Tundras don't have good tech.

what u want to know?
just traded mine in at 99,500 miles and it was never in the shop except for that stupid floor mat recall which was BS, anyway.
BTW, it was still like brand new, no issues whatsoever in that time. I've had 7 Yotas, just got another one.
Mine got 18.5 on the road, mega cab, 4 wd, slightly oversized tires..
I'm stickin' with what I bleeeeve in..

I have a 2011 5.7 Crewmax TSS. Currently sitting at Price Leblanc for three days now with oil leaks on the driver and passenger side cam housing as well as the timing chain cover at 30k miles. Needless to say, it seems they were a little lazy when they were building the 2011 engines

Other than that, I absolutely love it. Currently driving a 2014 DC loaner from them and I do not like it as much as mine.

Obviously late to the thread but I bought a 2012 Crewmax in May'12 and love it.
