Ive been looking into possible careers, and nursing looks like an option. i want to help people( I want to do doctors without borders), and they make good money. I was wondering on the path to take to become a nurse. Any advice would be great.
Do I complete 2 years at LSU and then transfer to LSU nursing school, or do I just apply now.
How hard is it to be a nurse?
How competitive is it?
And Im a male, will people make fun of me?

my sister had zero problem finding a job and she went to a smaller nursing school in MS

I'm in my last semester of nursing school. It's a great career with a wide range of opportunities. I'm also a male and no one has made fun of me. There's like 10 guys in my class and people are generally glad to have us around. The classes aren't that hard IMO, but you do have to do a lot of bullshite work along the way. Good luck!

LSUA actiually has a decent nursing program...and used to be a hell of a lot cheaper than LSU...
It takes a certain kind of person to be a nurse, but if you can manage it, you will have a job in any city you want for the rest of your career...

Probably but the ratio in nursing of guys to girls is worth it if you're looking to wife up and if you add gay guys to the girl side of the ratio then you're going to pick and choose whoever you want
If you got a girl don't go being around all that estrogen is going to drive you insane

Sir, I have been an RN for 15 years so have some good insight into this. Plus my son is also an RN and my daughter is a CT Tech. If I were you I would just go do the BSN thing at LSU, if you can afford it. If not, then you can go to many community colleges such as Southwest near McComb, MS or Co-Lin at Wesson, MS. Out of state tuition there is much cheaper than what you will pay at LSU. Expect those to take 3 years as you will have one year of prerequisites before school starts.
The schools are not easy to get into. Many apply but they take around 100 or so each year. If you don't make at least a B in College Algebra and A&P then you will struggle in nursing. They will take your GPA, ACT, and if done, the interview into consideration for admissions. If your grades and ACT are above average, then getting should be easy.
As for being a male, hospitals fricking love having male nurses for numerous reasons. We rarely take off to take of kids, that's usually what female nurses do (not being sexist, is what it is). Moods are much more stable, you will see what I mean when you work with primarily female. If you go into ER or Psych it is even more of a plus because they will rely on you often to deal with things, won't go further into that though. And no, I have never been made fun of. It is much more accepted now and is a very good career for males.
That's it. Good luck and anymore questions I will be glad to help.

I dont think they will accept you man. Nursing school is like med school. Your GPA is horrendous. You were kicked out of LSU. My advice is too go to those camelot college or ITI tech shite. Be a medical technician

Male nurses have it easier finding a job out of nursing school.
My best advice....GET YOUR BSN NOW!! No LPN, no associates degree, your BSN. Many hospitals going to only hiring BSN nurses. My hospital has told us we have until 2020 to get ours.
I was stupid and stayed in BR instead of going to LSU nursing school in NOLA. All because of a stupid guy I've long since left. I would have had no issue getting into LSU's nursing school too cause this was the late 90s(before waiting lists and I maybe made oneB a semester at LSU doing my pre-reqs). I also did volunteer work to look good on my application (which it did).
I only have a nursing diploma but make anywhere from 85-90k a year out here in AZ(i work a second nursing registry job on top of my full time job). But I still will have to go back to school soon to get my BSN.

Anatomy and Physiology. BTW, with a 29 ACT they will question as to why your gpa was bad. Be sure you emphasize that it was due to "immaturity", i.e. too much partying and that you are in a very different mindset now. Also, you will have to take your prerequisites before you apply. If those grades are up there then they will help you tremendously. BTW, Southwest looks at your overall gpa, including those from LSU as one area, gpa in A&P I and II and College Algebra in another, and your ACT as the final one. Be sure grades are good in A&P and Algebra. Can't comment on other schools except Co-Lin as they emphasize those plus an interview as well, Southwest may interview not too but not sure. In any case good luck. Don't let these guys get you down due to previous bad grades. Time to grab the bootstraps pal. Cheers.

I'm a male nurse. It's a good job. Pretty damn easy job to be honest. It's fairly competitive to get into nusing school and the majority that get in won't pass. Getting a job was no problem. I interviewed for 2 jobs 3 months before I graduated and was offered both jobs. You will be working with mostly females which has its ups and downs. Doesn't bother me one way or the other.
