5 up & 5 down
most relevant to Saints-
DE Trent Murphy, Stanford – The NCAA’s sack leader this season got off to a great start with an impressive practice with the North team Monday. Murphy is an athletic freak with a long wing span and his hands measured out as the biggest at the Senior Bowl (10 7/8 in.) He reminds me of J.J. Watt in that he’ll move up draft boards by impressing teams in his interviews with his character and knowledge of the game. He could be a mid-first-round pick by May.

other observations
I was surprised at the physique of Jordan Matthews (WR Vanderbilt). He's always struck me as a slight receiver, and I have expressed worry that he might get pushed around a bit at the next level because of it. Pads off, however, Matthews has a chiseled upper body that drew some remarks from team scouts sitting around me. Any concerns about him being weak are off the table.

Cyril Richardson (OG Baylor). This is a big man at 343 pounds, but he's clearly carrying some extra weight in the barrel. That said, he looks like the kind of guy who flips tractor tires for fun, and I know he can play football with the best of them. As a team, you draft him, buy him a few meal replacement bars and never say another word about his weight.

two bigger corners who immediately stuck out were Stanley Jean-Baptiste (CB Nebraska) and Keith McGill (CB Utah). Both of these guys can play football in addition to being tall drinks of water.

Richardson was someone mid-season I was thinking we might draft to groom for '15 season or replacement mid-season if grubbs/evans stunk next year (considering that we're stuck with grubbs/evans no matter what due to cap implications next year).

1st round might be too hefty of a price since we have other needs (WR/CB) that needs to be filled first.

This rotoworld article seems to give an update on most players.

Examples:
quote:

Edge rusher Trent Murphy, Stanford - I was a big fan of Murphy’s pass rushing skills including his outstanding hands, but we didn’t see much of that on Monday as he had trouble dealing with Zach Martin (who I project down to guard) and Seantrel Henderson who is the longest offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl.

quote:

OLB Kyle Van Noy, BYU - Does everything SO well on a football field. Coverage, rush the edge, pursuit, you name Van Noy has it. The Jaguars coaches got on him a bit during individual drills because they didn’t think he was flying through a drill. It’s just that he makes it look effortless. He made plays throughout the practice in coverage. It’s not a surprise to me as I’ve got him in my top 15 on our TSV Big Board but I value production and intelligence more than anything. Van Noy has all of it.

- Players aren’t supposed to be delivering big hits, but that didn’t stop Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon from leveling Saginaw Valley State wide receiver Jeff Janis during the North practice

Stanley Jean-Baptiste (6-foot-2 3/8, 215) CB, Nebraska is the player that has me the the most intrigued. I haven't seen much film of him yet but I would love to have a big corner in the Seattle mold. I think every team needs a player like that to cover the big receivers and the WR/TE's like Graham, Gronk and Davis. If the Saints could grab him in the 4th RD that would be great but I think he goes in the 3rd RD.

About Stanley Jean-Baptiste. I said a few days ago:

I now think that he is going to shoot up draft boards. I believe the Saints have to grab him in the 2nd for any chance at him but I'm starting to think he won't be there that late. Has the potential to be a huge impact on this team especially with all the big athletic TE's and WR's.
