At USCw when Carroll was there, Sarkisian was the brains and offensive play caller. Lane was there for recruiting.

Exactly. Kiffin has done it again. Convince people he knows something about something. The guy is a total joke.

What evidence tells you this? I see people posting that he is a great OC, but I am struggling to figure out what leads people to think that. His offenses at Oakland, Tenn, and USC (2nd time) were nothing special. His offense at USC (1st time) was due to a lot of Sark and just a complete talent disparity.

Good thing Bama is loaded with offensive talent and very well could be adding a NFL lottery talent at QB in Coker.

And you're basing this off of?

Does Bama have an heir apparent at QB ? , or will there be a battle in the spring.

Word on the street is they're getting the back up from FSU. He graduated in 2 years so he can transfer without sitting out.

Our options at QB:

Jacob Coker
David Cornwell - 4*
Cooper Bateman - 4*
Luke Del Rio - 3*, but rumored to be the backup, lots of potential

Kiffin will have some talent to work with, plus our WRs (Cooper, Jones, Falkins, Foster), and our RBs (Henry, Yeldon, Drake, Jones).

Serious ?

What is your honest opinion of Kiffin? And the hiring of Kiffin?

Can he really recruit? He didn't do a great job of recruiting at USC, his offensive play calling at USC was very questionable. The team really started playing well after he was fired and started scoring some points. This seems like a favor to Monty.

Toss up hire. Kiffin hasn't proven he can do much without the talent USC had in a league with no defense. But we shall see.

Couldn't beat Stanford or come up with a plan to defeat an overrated Notre Dame defense in 2012.

Had a great offense that dominated this year.

Alabama's offense didn't dominate anyone of note.
Alabama's offense struggled mightily versus Virginia Tech and Mississippi State.
Texas A&M didn't have a defense.
Ole Miss and Auburn's defenses weren't dominated.
LSU's defense was significantly below the standard.

Three years as recruiting coordinator at USC and he had three straight #1 recruiting classes.

Not sure how hard bama recruits the west coast now, but I think this helps out bama a lot in recruiting. Kiffin knows California and the west coast and now that gives Saban a chance to go after more of those kids.

It's a risk, of course. But I really believe that he will be successful here.

He won't be talking to the media at all.
His duties will be: OC, help with QBs, recruit.
Saban has his say in how our offense goes, if only a little (meaning focus on the run).

Offensively, I'm optimistic. After all, with all the new pieces we have to implement, how much more is an OC?

So the upside here is that he'll be the same as the guy Saban just ran off?

i dont think its a terrible hire especially if saban can keep him in check. kind of a risk though. linehan would have been a grand slam from a pure coaching standpoint IMO

He may end up doing well, but what an embarrassing hire.

This. I'm shocked that saban would want someone like kiffen on his staff. It may be fine, but it's just strange.
