All arguments aside (or lack thereof), this is hilariously awful: Kyle does Let It Go (Frozen)

Homerism =/= comparison by experiencing both

Kyle shreds the keys way harder in Kyle Hollingsworth Band than he does in SCI fwiw

In SCI he obviously can't overshadow Kang Kong (the most talented front man in the jam circuit)

I've seen Benevento numerous times but not Russo iirc. If he's ever done any JF late night shows then I wouldn't doubt it

edit: was Russo at Tips for late night show with Benevento and a bunch others at Jazzfest '09? If he was then yes, I vaguely remember that show though

He was there for that Tips show. It was him Benevento, Driewitz, and Metzger. Didn't stay the whole time because it was a LATE show and I was like 18

Well I guess that just speaks more about your assessment.

Any non-SCI homer would laugh at

Captain has seen every credible generic-noodle-wank-jam band in America

The dude has heady points in numbers someone like me could only possibly dream of

What is your definition of best?

Most talented?
Most innovative?
Most diverse?
Most enthusiastic?
Most exciting?

My definition of the best would be the biggest combination of all of those. And in my opinion, Hollingsworth does that. Naturally you're going to be against it. You're biased against SCI for the sole reason they aren't Phish.

I'm not really a fan of them so I tend to not to keep track. EF Rivertrance was decent. People love Joyful Sound and BollyMunster. Check out any of the last couple EFs. They bust it out more at those festivals than at regular shows

SCI wishes they actually could play sick 4/4 jams w/ e-drums and synths and shite

They stick to mediocre lolbluegrass and generic jambland stuff, and then the EOTO fraction of the band shits out this horrendous dubstep abortion music once every few shows to keep the kidz happy.

Bluegrass is a lot more complex than a looper and a drum machine

I'd rank Medeski, Benevento, and Walter above McConnell, fwiw.

As far as talent and innovation goes, jazz and experimental are harder and more impressive to play than (as danman put it ) lolbluegrass and untz. I know Hollingsworth has dipped in jazz but it is nowhere near what Medeski and Benevento have done. You can even compare him head-to-head with Robert Walter in Steve Kimock's band and I'd give the nod to Walter.

To be truthful I don't think there is a significant gap between any of the players I listed. That's why saying

quote:

Hollingsworth is the best keyboardist in the entire jam circuit right now.

is stupid.

I also think Ivan Neville limits himself in Dumpstaphunk. That dude could go down as one of the best if he put himself in the limelight more. I seen't it.

I agree. Kyle isn't showcasing his abilities in bluegrass or untz. That is just stupid to assume. Their songs are very much jazz and experimental infused. That is pretty clear if you ever listen to them. You're getting off track which is usual when you're going all red herring on the board.

Those three aren't in a top ranked jam band. Let me clarify that it does not taking anything from their talent though.

Hollingsworth brings more to the table than any of the guys listed
