Military FPS Games Need New Blood

Call of Duty and Battlefield have their places. But they are turning into or have turned into the Walmarts of FPS games.
They're getting dumbed down.
Here's what I think the next military FPS should focus on:
1. The gun. The gun should be authentic, weighty, and impactful. It should be customizable and unique. You should want to play this game because the guns have a feel and immersion to them that makes them feel almost realistic. There should be no target finders. There's no way in hell a red laser adds accuracy to your gun when you shoot from the hip. It's just there to help you ADS.
2. Teamwork. Coordinating streaks or when to clear an area.
3. Point streaks that are complimentary, not individualistic. The best example I can come up with is the UAV + Chopper in CoD4. Or the Raven UAV and Apache streaks in Warfighter.
4. Players should be rewarded for timing their streak rewards when used at appropriate times, like if a team needs to plant a bomb, a player uses a smoke mortar to mask the site and another teammate successfully plants...that should be rewarded.
5. Immersion. Look, we can't just run over a gun and get it's ammo in real life. Show the mags on the ground, make your player hit a button to pick them up. It can be a quick animation...nothing that holds you up or makes you too vulnerable. Or if I want to give my teammate a mag, toss him one. Don't just make it magically appear in inventory.
6. Real geographic regions or landmarks that are centered or the basis of maps. Washington, DC. Downtown Baghdad. Fallujah. Islamabad. Abbottabad. JFK Airport. Rural New York. The mountains and valleys of Afghanistan.
I saw a new FPS called Get Even on IGN. Trailer inside the link...I don't know what it is or how things play out, but it at least got me thinking something new is needed especially with the new consoles.

Made a thread for it yesterday but I do agree with you. I'm hoping titanfall brings enough difference.

I agree with you on all points but there doesn't appear to be anything like that on the horizon. Maybe it's too niche of a game? It costs so much for these studios to create and deliver a game they must insure that their product appeals to a mass audience.
I think it's time for COD or BF to go back to WWII era. The new tech would allow for greater immersion and the gamer can take a break from all of the future weapon technology bullshite going on in these games.

Titanfall is not really what I'm looking for, even though it will be new blood. I want something that feels like the last 30 minutes of Zero Dark Thirty.

The first Borderlands made you do this (animation was the ammo zooming at your face), and that was alright for a bit, but when 2 allowed you to automatically pick it up when walking over it, I didn't miss the old method. I think this would be nightmarish in a competitive MP game and would get old quick. It's one of those unrealistic aspects of shooters that I think is necessary.

I think this is dependent on who you are playing with. That aspect is there for BF, not necessarily with COD, but if you're with a bunch of kill whore run and gunners, it won't happen. I'd like a game that forced you to play as a team, but that would probably cut out a good chunk of the shooter market.
Any kind of point/kill streak can DIAF, IMO. I'm a purists, I suppose, when it comes to that. Prefer the old COD or Halo setup where everyone just goes against everyone, even field, best player wins out. I know streaks reward good play, but there are always players who find exploits to make attaining those easier, and eventually that becomes the main focus of a majority of the player base.

Or you could play better games.

That sound interesting but as it stands military sim games (which is what you are describing) are niche titles. Very little chance a major developer/publisher would take a chance on it.

Honestly i think that is the key. right now the military market is aiming at the masses and what they are doing is selling. BF3 was fun but I wasn't crazy about it so I passed on bf4. I'm loving borderlands though and looking forward to the new wolfenstein later this year, if it makes it...

I'm not making light of that style, it's just not what I like.

have you tried it? not being a dick, asking a legit question

Derps have taken over the market and that's where the money is.
If they hadn't have royally screwed up the Operation Flashpoint franchise, there would be your game.

That's all fine and good, but if you are going to stick with mainly military shooters, you're at the mercy of that market, and it's all generic now.

No, I haven't. And I probably won't. That's my ignorance and I completely own it.
@ sic, I associate derps with snipers. Sniper rifles need to be taken completely out of this new FPS.

I ask that because when I saw games with the design like borderlands or even wind waker for the zelda series I was not a fan. Once I gave it a shot I really enjoyed it. Honestly once you start playing you don't even notice.

Just taking out snipers isn't going to fix the genre. I know you're not a COD guy, but the super marathon akimbo knifey guys are just as big of a headache to me.
Get rid of perks, like the ones that allow you to perform outside of the bounds of a normal soldier. If you're going to fall 3 stories, heck yeah you need to take some serious damage if not die.

You will never have a video game showing destruction of a real life American City, or replicas of cities that American men and women recently fought and died in. It's just too emotional.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a new Vietnam era FPS with all this updated technology. I was late to the party of BFBC2:Vietnam, but that was one of the most fun FPS games I've played.
BF3 and COD 4 were my most favorite "modern warfare" fps, but in all honesty, I'm way more partial to WWII and Vietnam than all this futuristic bs they keep putting out.

The perk system wasn't too bad in COD 4, but COD has too "arcade-like" for my taste.
As far as snipers, I love the class and what it is SUPPOSED to represent, but the people who play those classes are 9 times out of 10 lone wolf players who refuse to help the team or even utilize the class to its full potential as it pertains to helping the team.
You also should not be able to run and gun at close range effectively with a sniper rifle vs someone with an m16, shotgun or SMG.
