Les Miles -in the arena!

As Miles shakes up his staff, and as he fights back from recent recruiting setbacks, he does so under a barrage of criticism from armchair coaches, and reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt's words:
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

There is a difference between when Miles took over and Saban took over.

Les is definitely showing up to the Coliseum with his spear sharpened. He is not going away quietly. F*** the Decline.

great point. my Dad took me into his office and introduced me to that exact quote when I was a kid....it's now on the wall of my office and, when needed, I get my kids to read it out loud.

But what some people don't realize it that MAINTAINING a scuccessful program is dificult too.

How easy is it to take over after a legend. Ask Bill O'Brien. Look around at who in the history of coaching have been successful at that. After 9 years, CLM has proven he is more than capable of doing that and running this huge program successfully.
Alot of bad luck has hit the LSU program over the years, way more than most programs. Les just keeps putting together great teams and coaches.
He's one of the best we couldve ever hoped for back 9 years ago. We should be singing this man's praises for not allowing us to become a Nebraska or Tennessee. Other than game day decisions, where are his weaknesses. And after this last year that saw very few game day mistakes, the haters are running out of excuses.
