Bought my wife a new car so it's time to sell her old one. Newspaper? Craigslist? Suggestions?

I sold a truck on Craigslist and it was the easiest transaction I can imagine. Then again it was a 4x4 f150 so my market was all oilfield workers. I negotiated everything via text message and met the guy at my bank to complete the sale.

Last 3 I have sold from just putting a for sale sign with a price and phone number,.. All sold in less than a week...

This was over the span of the last five years...

I posted mine on CL for 2 weeks, then added listings at cargrus and eBay.

Sold on eBay (regionally) in 5 days.

You might lose a couple grand with carmax. I think the book on my ram was 22k, and they gave me 20k. Took less than an hour and I had a check in my hand. It was worth it to me not to have to deal with a private sale.

You can let them give you an appraisal. It's free and you dont have to accept their offer if youre not happy with it.

I've never dealt with them. They have good and bad reviews. Like other poster said only took him a hour and it's free so may be worth a shot. Report back if you get a estimate

Same here...and I just displayed the vehicle in the parking lot of a closed business located in a high traffic area...

If you are looking to get the most $ for your vehicle, this is the way to go.

If you just want to get rid of it and don't mind sacrificing some $, then Carmax is a good avenue

Did carmax. 05 envoy with a bad egg in the back rear tire, bad scratch repair from spray paint can, and 1 of my pistons wasn't working properly. Their review was my tires were perfect, body was great, and engine was perfect. Needless to say they gave me 8k when everywhere else was offering me 6500 on trade in. I took that 8k and ran and they ended up with a lot of headache.
