So this means the average pot smoker (or at least you) will be spending somewhere between $600 & $800 per month on this? Is getting stoned really worth that?

I could buy a whole lot of other happiness with that.
That's what I'm thinking. I'm not against legalization. If an adult has the money they earned and that's what they want to spend it on... go head and knock yourself out. But personally, I just can't see how anyone in their right mind would spend that much just to get high. Hate to say it, but the fact people are willing to spend that much money a month on pot makes me wonder if there is something to the notion that it is addictive at least on some level.

In my defense, I'm medically retired, and moved to this state specifically because my doctor recommended marijuana as a treatment for my disability.
eta- not saying I don't enjoy it though.

This may shock you, but "because it's illegal" or "I don't want to get arrested" is pretty far down on the list of reasons that the majority of people out there don't do drugs.

That comment was a pre-emptive strike.

Wasn't the law passed many months ago? How long does it take to start up the growing process? I would think producers would have geared up their production in anticipation of the law taking effect.
What they're doing is still illegal on the federal level. That's a huge risk to invest thousands, or even millions of dollars, into something that could be confiscated by the DEA at any time.

Sorry if you took it that way. I have no issue with people who legit use it for medical issues. I really don't even care if people want to use it recreationally either.
I do however find it a bit crazy though that recreational users are willing to spend that type of money on it every month. $600 - $800 per month is not chump change. That translates to between $7,200 & $9,600 per year. Another way to look at it to give some perspective is it's between $19.73 & $26.31 every single day for the year. That's crazy.

True. It isn't cheap. But like I said, I spend half that.

People spend that on coffee around here.

You buy an ounce once every two weeks, right? If that's the case then you buy twice a month. If the price of an ounce is around $300 (as others have said) then that means you spend an average of $600 per month on pot. That stretches out to $7,200 per year or $19.73 every day of the year for a full year.

What kind of high quality weed are you buying that you can go through an oz a week?
I have some strains that will smooth turn you into a zombie smoking less than a bowl.

The last time I went through chemo, I was given a prescription for capsules containing the active ingredients of marijuana in an effort to control my non-stop puking and stomach cramps. It didn't work. I quit taking the capsules after 3 chemo treatments.
I only mention this because I never experienced any "high" from taking the capsules so I still don't know what I'm missing.
(I still have some of those capsules left over in my medicine cabinet if anyone is interested. )

Price varies by location. If you'll look back at my posts, you'll see I said that I pay around $200 an ounce.

Dabs screwed my tolerance.
BTW, I said an ounce every two weeks.

Not quote. The average price of a cup of coffee is $1.38 in the US. To spend the same amount as the average pot smoker, the average coffee drinker would have to buy between 15 and 20 cups of coffee 7 days a weeks every single day for a full 365 day year.

they aren't smoking $70 of weed a day

I was joking. But people spend a lot more than that here. They don't get their coffee from Waffle House.

OH, sorry. I though the average was between $300 and $400. So you're spending $400 per month or $4.800 per year or $13.15 per day.
That still translates to almost 10 cups of coffee per day BTW.

I'm not reading all of this but are there people in this thread that think prices will not come down drastically now that it is legal?
