re: Colorado Sees Marijuana Prices Soar After Legalization

You said that THE REASON people said it should be legalized is because the price will go down.
I guess I have to complete the picture for you. The "picture" is drawn by the legalization movement.

The legalization supporters have repeatedly said the legalization of illegal drugs will take the monopoly of the majority of drug supplies out of the hands of drug cartels when legitimate businesses start producing and selling the drugs. This will destroy the profit incentive of the drug cartels and legalization will be the cause (reason) for a decrease in illegal drug prices.

They claim it will also reduce drug related violence.

And this is true. The price of "illegal" weed will drop.

Explain why your jimmies are rustled by what I posted in my first post. Thanks.

If it will move this along, then by all means, consider my jimmies rustled. I'll concede that they are in fact thoroughly rustled, now moving on....

Your argument was a straw-man because you said that the other side was wrong for making a statement that no one made. If you disagreed with me that no one made this statement then you could have easily linked one of the MANY posts that you claimed to have seen. But instead you started talking about jimmies and whatnot.

The reason that I responded to you in the first place was that I was looking for a reasonable argument against legalization, because like I said I haven't heard one. Now if you'd be so kind, I'd love to hear it. Please.

If the price of legal MJ increases over what the price of illegal MJ has been, why would the price of illegal MJ drop?

The druggies will still have a financial incentive to buy from the illegal sources with their existing lower prices.

Not true, b/c there are external factors built into the markets that don't allow them to operate freely (mainly, the illegality of it).

I may be more willing to spend $30 on a gram legally than I would $20 on the same gram illegally to avoid any legal hassles.

If you view them as separate markets, the demand for illegal weed will decrease, correct? Obviously some folks are moving over to the legal market and willing to pay higher prices for it, thus diminishing demand in the illegal market. There's your price decrease.

If you prefer to believe no one on this board or the Poli Board have long advocated legalization and have said that by doing so the price of MJ will decrease, then go ahead and believe that. That's fine by me.

It has been repeated numerous times in numerous threads. You can search for those posts just like I can. Why should I spend my time doing a search and posting links just to prove you wrong? It's not that important to me.

being able to walk in a store front and buying it is worth a premium price than dealing with sketchy joe from down they street who continually operates on black man time.

That depends on the price differential. Just look in this thread at those who moan that the price of the legal stuff is too high. There will be enough users who will still go to their long-time illegal suppliers who they think they can trust.

The prices will come down as the buying and selling stabilizes. They won't fall drastically. Maybe 300 per oz, or there about.

No one who supports legalizing drugs says that will all happen within the first week.

But you know that and instead choose to present a dishonest argument.

FWIW, I don't do illegal drugs, but I support legalization. So please refrain from calling me a druggie in your reply.

How long does an ounce usually last the average pot smoker?

Maybe. But I can see an argument that with legalization there will be an increase in buyers (users) because the stigma of getting arrested is removed. As wth any product, if there is an increase in demand, there is an increase in price.

Good question.

I'm still wondering how long an ounce will last the "average" pot smoker. Can anyone give me an idea here?

So do the rules of supply and demand not exist with this particular industry? The market will correct itself when the supplies are back up once the fad wears off.
