Dropping "roger" as a verb from your lexicon will probably go a long way towards helping you achieve this first goal.

The best way to get over a girl is to get under another one

The last serious, legit relationship I was in..I gave myself time to be miserable. You're gonna feel like shite, that's natural, there's no need to try to beat yourself up or feel "wrong" for being sad.
So basically, I gave myself about 2 months to be a deadbeat. I barely left the house. Got real drunk, real often. Listened to breakup music and watched TV all day. Was basically just worthless. But I gave myself an end date. When it was over and I'd kind of gotten it out of my system, I did anything I could think of to make positive changes in my life. I started experimenting in the kitchen with different recipes. I started working out. I started reading the shite out of books. I basically tried to find positive, constructive things to do with my time and energy.
Also, and this may not be for everyone, I wrote a little letter to myself. I talked about aaalllll the reasons that our relationship was bad and why it couldn't/wouldn't work and why I was better off not being with her. Whenever I'd get down, I'd go back and reference it. It really helped to put things into context.

Work out
A lot
Actually, that's a good way to get over any kind of stress in your life.

Just give it some time. Drinking and finding new chicks to roger helps keep your mind off of it but ultimately it will take some time to get over like it always does
ETA: I moped around for almost two months after my last breakup before I started feeling like myself again. Once I finally was over it other things started falling into place

Like another poster said, give yourself time to be miserable.
Friends may want to immediately take you out, get you drunk and try to hook you up with other chicks but sometimes the best thing is just being alone right after a breakup(esp if it was a serious relationship).
And getting wasted drunk immediately after a breakup is not as fun as it sounds either. Afterall....remember alcohol is a depressant...you'll just end up feeling shittier about the whole thing and possibly doing something stupid(drunk dialing the ex).
Also... NO CONTACT with the ex. Don't let her try to pull the "we can be friends" bit with you now. Your heart is broken, no you cannot be friends with the source of that heartbreak...at least not right now. Delete her from fb, don't answer her texts, don't ask about her from mutual friends, etc, etc.
