Thanks for reminding me about that. Conversation at school after holidays between most first grade boys in Avoyelles:
"What you got for Christmas?"
" A lil Protch. Dat robin jambalaya was good, yeah!"
Protch,-noun- any of the various lever action air powered BB guns given as a rite of passage to most boys in Avoyelles parish at about age 6. Derived from the sound they made when shot. Usually graduated a couple years later to Benjamins or 22s. My Benjamin was handed down to me by a young uncle.
