So why did the saints suck last season? Why is our defense no longer historically bad?
Because we were asking shitty aging players to get pressure with 4 on the qb and average/bad safeties to each cover half the field after making quick decisions?
A scheme can definitely fit players differently, but we've had a huge influx in young talent. The way the op was worded made it seem that our players are lacking the daily coaching to perform an an adequate level. There is a big difference between an overall schematic fit and a position coach leaving supposedly having a dramatic impact on a squad. Since last year we have a de and olb coming in to their own, a new dynamic safety, a huge improvement at one corner back spot, healthy interior linemen who don't suck, and better linebackers in Harrelson and Hawthorne... We've essentially revamped the majority of the defense.
