Powerhouses have hardware, have longevity, have a physical brand of ball(modus operandi), they bring in waves of big bad talent that has mauled and maimed even as the names have changed on the back of the jerseys.

OSU and Baylor are New Age Big-12-ish, Spread, lightly gadget-esque, mainly rely on speed-in-space isolation,etc..neither with hardware nor longevity..they may beat you..they may leave you winded..they don't appear to leave teams all physically busted up.

I have a simpler definition. When you are a powerhouse, being one of the elite teams in college football is not considered an aberration.
