That would have put the ball at the LSU 46. Since their K wasn't Justin Tucker they're not in FG range. They snapped the ball with 9 seconds left so at most they're running 1 more play, their TOs weren't a huge factor.

Just looked, you are correct. A twenty yard completion would have beaten them. The idea was to make him get rid of it quickly. One of two schools of thought.
