And that's where the gap still exists in the 2013 sports media. Taking a step back - how likely is it that a TCU beat writer from Fort Worth would beat Chip Brown, who has broken nearly every major news item from the Longhorns, to this story? How likely is it that an Oklahoma City sportscaster would beat Brett McMurphy? Or an Oklahoma fan site getting the scoop ahead of Yahoo? None of those gentlemen are based in Austin. You wouldn't expect a Detroit Free Press columnist to break news about Derrick Rose or an NBA beat writer in Portland to get scoops on Kobe Bryant.

Or what about the owner of a LSU fan site saying that Saban was 50% likely to go to Texas?

Anybody who is blaming journalists, Texas fans, LSU fans, the internet, or anybody like that is being played for a fool. You heard all this Saban-to-Texas stuff for one very simple reason: Saban wanted you to. There is nowhere else to look, no one else to blame. This is who Saban is. He did it to Michigan St., he did it to LSU, he did it to the Dolphins, and now he's doing it to Alabama. Occam's razor.

Don't think you know what this is or else you wouldn't use it here. Occam's Razor would actually lead one to think Saban is not leaving Bama.

Occam's razor can't explain such a thing, and I made no assertion that it did.

The most direct explanation for why you are hearing Saban-to-Texas rumors is because Saban wants you to. It benefits him either way, and fits the historical pattern. Occam's razor.

Occam's razor

states that among competing hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected.

what has fewer assumptions:

A) a man in a job that he's been in 40% longer than any previous job has said he intends to retire in that job and just agrees to a deal that would make that likely. we have on the record comments with legitimate media sources, or

B) a potential employer paid off $25M of debt for a potential employee with no guarantee that said potential employee would take the job and has been able to keep that info quiet despite the full attention of the college football media? said employer is going to pay said potential employee 2X previous salaried employee in same role and offer 10 year fully guaranteed contract even if said potential employee retires before the 10 year period ends. all info is speculative or nearly 12 months old.

I think you hit the nail right on the old head here. Agree 100%.
