I don't think most people care about Iona.

And Mr. Saint himself - Coach K - said Jimmy V didn't do anything wrong or bad or against the NCAA...but players did and he got the blame.

I think you are correct. Iona is just a blip on the radar screen that was Valvano's coaching career. A bigger blip than Bucknell, but cannot come close to comparing to his NCS career.

I think the world of Jimmy V. The unspecified amounts of money that changed hands with Ruland was peanuts, but that doesn't make it any less an NCAA violation.

To this day, I am not sure that I know the full story about NCS. I like to think it was players only. It is clear that his players at NCS loved him. The 30/30 show I saw on him and that team was inspiring and moving. Almost as moving as Jimmy's "Don't give up. Don't ever give up." speech.

He did some shady things. And if you blame the players then you have to say there was a lack of institutional control.

If you give Chris Washburn a scholarship, you know what you are getting into.

But I watch the speech every year and remember all of 1983. I was a teenager back then and I was pulling for him.
