College basketball does a much better job of determining a champion.
Now, does it do a better job of determining who the best team is? It's about even between the two methods.
This year in football, the best team is Florida State, and, if not them, Alabama. But Auburn certainly could win the championship game....because they've gotten hot. But they aren't the best team.

Auburn has one loss over 13 games. Same as Alabama. Auburn also has a tougher SOS than Alabama. Auburn played their schedule, finished with 1 loss and won the conference. If you want to call them a "hot" team, they've been hot all season.
