He said that he gets asked a lot if he were an elite recruit why he would choose LSU. Here is his response. I loved it and thought it was spot on.

quote:

Why? Because I grew up in Louisiana as a Tiger Fan, and it would mean something to me to represent my state and play where my friends and relatives could come out and watch me. Plus, I would recognize the great success LSU has had in getting players to the NFL. I would also realize that if I decided to have a post-football career in Louisiana, having played for LSU could provide opportunities that I might not otherwise have. And then there's the reason that LSU commit/signee Brandon Harris gave – that when he succeeds and reaches Hall of Fame status, he wants to be in the Louisiana Hall of Fame, not in some other state’s Hall of Fame. (You’ve gotta love the way this young man thinks!) I guess it comes down to having pride in where you come from. Now, if I wasn’t from Louisiana, some of those reasons would not apply, but I would still recognize the great football tradition, the NFL pipeline, the world-class educational opportunity, the outstanding facilities, and the Tiger Stadium Game Day atmosphere that’s second to none. And that's not even mentioning the fact that I truly believe the combination of Head Coach Les Miles, Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron and Defensive Coordinator John Chavis is as good as you’ll find in the business. Just my two cents.

hypothetical choices are easy for folks who don't have the actual choice to make...

Unless there was a Curley Hallman-type regime at the helm, LSU offers much more than any other school for Louisiana recruits.

There are many factors to choosing an out-of-state college program, but I think the most overrated one is to go to a school because of the current head coach (they can leave before you even arrive to campus). I think all recruits must ask themselves if they would choose the school if the current coaching staff announced they would not be there next year. If you can still answer "yes" then it's probably the best choice for them to go there. Otherwise, they need to reassess.

i'm all for the home state pride angle, but its not a great selling point to all recruits...and LSU needs TX,MS,FL to name a few.

OL prospect is the only position IMO, that you would have to seriously consider going to another school rather than LSU.

Also how important is education. If my son received a scholly from Stanford or even an academic to an Ivy League school, I would try to persuade him to go that route.
