I did that shite one time and some genius goddamned coon chewed my rope in two and dropped the feeder on the ground. Had it on camera. I was impressed.

This is your only fix, the feeder has to be about 5-6 ft away from the tree hung with steel cable. Also the feeder has to be more than 3ft under the limb cause they will pop the top on the feeder and scoop out all your corn. They are a pain in the butt to deal with since they are protected. Tripods will not work unless you decide to concrete the legs into the ground permanently.
One more thing, the caster has to be more than 6ft off the ground, otherwise the bear will just pull the caster off and sit there to eat all the corn as it falls out the bottom of the barrel.
We have land in Tensas and 1 bear will eat a 55 gallon drum of corn in a weekend if he can dump the corn out.
