It is bit perfect at redbook (16 bit 44.1 kHz) quality. My DAC only handles redbook and all of my music is in it, so it's good enough for me. It's transmitting and outputting the native resolution digitally, there shouldn't be any degradation.
It's pretty damn handy as well. I was running an optical cable under my house for a while and it was a PITA.

The Air Port looks like the way to go as far as convenience
