I'd say yes.

I also agree with other posters that say that the PMP is probably more important in the IT world.

With that in mind, I'd probably encourage the CAPM. It would probably signal to employers to put you on "projects." If you review the requirements of the PMP, you need to collect a pretty good number of hours on project tasks to take the exam. I'd make sure to review those requirements and try to align your role/tasks with those requirements as soon as is feasible.

Definitely think it is worth it in the IT world, might as well go ahead and take the CAPM if your company will pay for it since it is basically a prep for the PMP once you have the experience.

Thanks, I'll probably take the CAPM in a year or two, I've read that it's only valid for 5 years. Very doubtful that my employer will pay for it, because I'm not currently in a PM role.
