You will hear both sides so you will have to decide ultimately. Regardless I am sure he/she will be thrilled with a new/first rifle. I remember giving Eric his and he was just plain stoked!

This is what my son has. We got it when he was 12 or 13. He is 20 now. It is all he hunts with and has never wanted another gun.

A friend of mine told him when first got it to shot them in the neck and he has done that on every deer he has killed-- 8 or 10 deer over the years--and every one fell in their tracks. One at almost 150 yards. We has a 3x9 nikon scope I believe.

The Browning X is an outstanding rifle and the 7mm-08 is a great whitetail round.
