I have always fished with baitcasters but I am looking to buy a decent spinning reel setup. I will use it primarily for trout and reds. What are some decent options that are not too expensive? Thanks.

I would like to know as well. I currently have a Pflueger President on 7' AS. Is Pflueger a good reel?

Cork handle rod.

Shimano Sahara($89) on an AllStar($39)
Ugly Stick has the new GX2 rod out around the same price and I have been hearing good things about them, so that is an alternative.

Make sure and get a 7 ft rod.
Can't go wrong with Shimano.
Cabelas has a Tourney trail and Shimano Sedona spinning combo for $100.00.
It's a very nice combo for the money.

Any of the shimano reels, I personally like the symetre 2500. I have several different rods everything from a high dollar loomis to a cheap h20 express.

I've been fishing for my whole life and just switched to a bait cast. I haven't done any research but when is it advantageous to use spinning vs bait cast and vice versa?

Very light line. Very light lures. Corks.

I want a spinning reel to make it easier to throw a popping cork in the wind, especially with live bait. I like bait casting when I have to make targeted casts.

Shimano symetry 2500 (or 4000 if most red fishing) on a 7 ft all star rod.
