"It was Drew Brees. And maybe the officials were for the New Orleans Saints a little bit more than the 49ers. I think it's B.S., man," he said, according to the Chronicle.

(Said by Ahmad Brooks)

I really dislike the 49ers even more after reading this

Devastating for the 49ers franchise.

Wasn't as compelling the second time.

notice one major thing?

We get robbed by the refs vs. pats.
- fans complain
- players don't use the refs as an excuse, and say that it is on them to make the plays

San Fran gets a call against them that costed them a game
- fans complain
- players complain

who's the tpos team now

False. They had the ball with 3 mins left to put it away and got their shite pushed in.

It was a costly penalty, but the game was lost in 4 quarters, not in one play.

of course, but them getting a turnover on a brees sack like would've been big for morale. either way, the point is. their team cries when they got "robbed", but our team was straight robbed and not one player complained or blamed the ref.

our team blames themselves for their failures, every time.

I don't know how old you are and if you remember when the Saints and 49ers were in the same division, but that's the 49ers. Always has been and will always be that way.

The 49ers are a whole team filled with guys like Philip Rivers...you get the picture.

Looks to me like the defender put his shoulder into the QB's neck and almost took his head off.

That call will be made 100% of the time...period.
Had this argument this morning with a jackass who calls himself a Saints fan. Brooks effectively grabbed Drew by the throat and held on until he hit the ground.

Like I said, 100% of the time.

The got a gift on the Pick 6 Touchback and the botched Punt...they had PLENTY of freebies. One play and one penalty doesn't make a game.

Speaking for myself I'm old enough to remember and the 49ers didn't cry/complain back in those days... mostly because they utterly dominated the Saints (and most of the rest of the league, too).

Everybody dominated the Saints back then. Ironically, the Saints played better against the 49ers (who did dominate everyone) than just about any other team.

Any way you slice it that was a bullshite call.

Most of the league don't get the benefit of that call. You think Carson Palmer or Roethlisberger get that call? No.

I'm not a big fan of those "protect the QB" calls that are becoming more and more prevalent these days, but that's a topic for another thread. With those rules being in place I don't see how that's not a penalty. It was basically a close to the shoulder clothesline from the side. I will say its obnoxious to sack the QB these days with the "only hit in this single spot" rules they have, but if Brooks had drove into his chest instead of taking his head off its quite possible Brees drops but doesn't fumble. I'll also say that I don't think it was an intentionally dirty hit, but it's hard to hit a QB in an "appropriate" area when he is trying to dodge you.

I won't say that it gets called 100% of the time, because different refs/different angles etc can sway a lot, but I think that gets called most of the time for most any QB.

Honestly, the one thing nobody mentions is that as likely it could have been that Brees could have gotten seriously hurt, he seemed to barely be phased at all

How about we slice it THIS way, moron?

Let's look at the actual written rule. When we look at the actual rule IN WRITING, it is clear that it was a penalty.

So, props to the refs for enforcing the rules as they are written.
