re: Why do I even listen to ESPN radio sometimes? (Brees hit related)

I want to know why the intentional grounding wasn't called on Kaep but on Brees when Brees was much further out of the pocket.

Had this call been the other way around, would you all feel this way?
Take the Saints colored glasses off, it looks like it was a pretty shite call, and it very likely decided the game.
If my team lost like that, I'd be pissed, and I imagine most here would as well.

Haha, because he was clearly outside of the pocket.
What a joke that call was as well, it was close, but looked like he may have been just a step out based on where the tackle had set up.

I agree. It was called correctly per the written rule, but still a bad call. Just glad this one went in our favor

How is it a bad call if it's the rule? If you shouldn't call it, then why have the rule?

So a call that was correct was bad.
Got it.

well, it's a penalty by the rules, but it shouldn't be called."
this logic just blows my mind. So a SF player commits a penalty on a play that probably determines the game and it should not be called why exactly? So basically it would have been "eh tough shite Saints, yes he violated a rule but I can't make that call in this spot."
Oh ok

The correct call shouldn't be called because it violates the spirit on the game.

First I want to start by pointing out what hypocrital douches they are at ESPN...bountygate: "this is disgusting, player safety rabble rabble. Oh and you should be able to closeline people and twist their helmet (deliberately I might add)
here is the thing. People hate when a game is swung by a penalty...
but the typical response is to blame refs, rules, etc...instead of the retard who commits the penalty.
People who hate the pats make me I relate to them.
People whine about this and that, and refs and spygate...and yet you never hear them make excuses when it goes the other way, they take responsibility. Same with the saints
It's all noise. 8-2. We dominated that game in every statistical category except the score and we won...San Fran should be thanking their lucky stars they were even in the game.

What other rules do the people at espn want the NFL to disregard?
Posted on 11/18/13 at 9:47 am to LSUZombie
if Drew didn't fumble, this wouldn't even be on the fricking news.
because it was a turnover, it makes everyone panties get in a wad
frick the media

Whenever Mike and Mike interview someone, they always going into the break with "So much to react to when we come back." That's their show in a nutshell. No thinking. No perspective. Just reaction.

Said the same thing to my dad last night.
And if Frisco gets the ball back there, do you think they are able to run the clock out with all of our timeouts and the two minute warning?
Their offense was dogshit yesterday

Of all people to speak logic, it is Peter King
quote:
Tony Corrente got the call right in New Orleans. With 3:18 left and San Francisco up by three in a crucial game between the Niners and Saints, linebacker Ahmad Brooks sacked Drew Brees and forced a fumble, which the Niners recovered. The problem was the sack, and the mechanics of it. Brooks clotheslined Brees on a hit that started above the sternum and finished with him forcibly sending Brees to the ground by contacting the neck with his forearm. Corrente called a personal foul on Brooks, gave the ball back to New Orleans, and the Saints went on to win with two Garrett Hartley field goals in the final three minutes. Emotional call, obviously, one that hurt the Niners grievously. But if you’ve seen nothing else in this league over the past three years, you’ve seen that officials are charged with protecting the quarterback above all others. And Corrente was protecting the quarterback. He did it wisely. Brees was tossed to the ground because of a forearm that finished on his neck. I thought the call was obvious.

He was bleeding
I see guys touch a qbs head and get called.
How about the intentional grounding call on brees? He was under no pressure and threw the ball away...i thought that WASN'T grounding?

Exactly.
It wasn't the last play of the game. There was 3:18 left.
We had timeouts and the 2 minute warning, and the 9ers had -7 yards that half.
Its not like this was on the last drive. Jesus.

That and the fact that they are huge PC pussies. I can't believe they weren't jizzing on themselves over protecting the QB as opposed to questioning the call. They're usually over the top about player protection.
