The Hunger Games was actually really good...

I went in with very low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't completely suck. JL did well in a leading role.
FWIW I didn't read any of the books, so I'm not sure how much they left out or changed.
The violence was a little subdued (for kids to watch I presume), but definitely not as bad as I was expecting, they even showed blood. Can't wait to check out the next one in theaters.

I have to agree with you on this one.
I didn't see it in theaters, and wouldn't have seen it unless my wife hadn't rented the movie to watch it to the 20th time.
There's a good chance I actually may go see the sequel in theater next week.

It's pretty good IMO. Way, way, way better than the last teenie series that was popular, Twilight.

Unfortunately, you will end up seeing the final book's movies.
I wish I could go back and not read the last book. It was about as bad as the last few seasons of Heroes.

It was better than I thought it would be. I thought it got a little touch much love but I did like it

It was very good, I'm stoked for Catching Fire.

Say no more.
Now, show me on this bear where Seasons 2-4 of Heroes touched you:

Worse IMO, easily the worst book I've ever read, such a disappointing end to the series. It's only redeeming quality is that you could read it in about 3 hours

It was a poorly made movie. The acting was pretty meh. There is no chemistry between anyone. The story is rushed and leaves some rather important details out. There's no actual hunger. The camera work was terrible.

It was a decent movie.
Yeah I am going to agree with the poster that said the last book sucks. Read the books because I thought the movie was good. Really wish I hadn't read the last one. Although it does describe exactly how fricking crazy women actually are to a frickin T. No more Hunger Games, she keeps getting hurt and goes on a drug binge, constant whining about every fricking thing in the world. It hurts your head....

I read the books. The adaption of the first novel was fairly accurate.

The books are marketed for "young adults" bit believe me when I say that they are incredibly violent. The movies could've easily been R rated had they not toned down some of the violence.
I liked the first and second books, and hated the third. It literally seemed like the author ran out of ideas and just buttoned up the storyline. Interested to see how that translates to screen.

The books were incredibly bad/lazily written. Especially the 3rd. Author essentially hit the jackpot with a neat premise for the first one that hooked a shite load of teens into two more poorly written books.
I actually thought the first movie did a better job of developing some very one dimensional characters than the book did.

Agreed. The last two books were atrocious. This is one of the few times I hope movie is different from the book.

FIFY
Battle Royale is on Netflix if you can manage a movie with subtitles or know Japanese. It's better.

quote:I agree with that. I have read all three books and saw the movie. The one thing I didn't like was that certain things that were explained in detail the books - tesserae, tracker jackers - were just somewhat skimmed over in the movie. But I did like how they expanded the use of the TV broadcast to explain some things, since the books are all told from Katniss's perspective.

I enjoyed the movie and look forward to the 2nd one. My wife and 8 year old (yes, my 8 year old watched it because I think it's fairly mild and not too much for her) really enjoyed them as well.
I didn't read the books so I have no clue what's going to happen in the next two.
Wife said she enjoyed the books and honestly would take her review of the books a little more than I would some of you.
I am a moderate reader of the M/TV board and I forget who takes movies way too seriously and picks apart every single possible aspect of every movie to find something so you can call it terrible.

It's good that you share the same awful taste if she liked the third one.

Fair. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Good but not great but I don't expect great from that type of film.
