I think it's the pattern of 3rd quarter collapses and the general disarray of the offense that has caused the overreaction

And a few points:

1. Anderson isn't going to correct much guys. The "everything will be alright when Anderson gets back" crowd is going to be sorely disappointed when they find out a stretch four that can't do anything particularly well but hit catch and shoot 3's isn't going to solve any of the big problems. Especially defensively.

2. I'm really not sure about Holiday. He doesn't seem to have a good grasp on what it takes to be a facilitator, especially when we really need a basket and he takes it a horrific shot on a half arse executed iso play. He looks really bad, and a PG looking bad at running an already really porely run offense with a serious lack of playmakers is an extremely discouraging thing.

3. The bench is just really, really bad. If Reek is only going to give us anything every 3rd game we ain't getting out of the lottery.

4. Davis being so good has become the one thing that makes me HAVE to watch the team every night. He's doing shite that I've never seen people do on the basketball court. And he's 20. It just makes me sad, mostly because I'm such a pessimist, that this dude isn't going to have success here, and probably eventually leave. It's so rare that there is an NBA player that almost has no legitimate comparison, and we have currently have one, in our franchise, and we fricking suck. it's just...it's just fricking depressing he won't get his due on an unsuccessful small market franchise.

Pacers started 3-6 last year with big expectations. George Hill was taking over full time PG duties, Danny Granger got hurt and threw a wrench into things, Paul George and Lance Stephenson were trying to emerge, Roy Hibbert was demanded to take on a bigger role. They didn't have a strong chemistry at first, but they stuck together like our Pelicans will and they came out alright. Just because there are problems right now, doesn't mean they will persist. In time the chemistry and rhythm of this team will come to fruition and it will be a beautiful thing to see. All the nega-pels on this board are constantly understating the value of flow to a season. The Pelicans have gotten janked around and are out of that flow; don't doubt that flow will come in time. Just be patient. Flock together people.

Solid post. A couple of things I'm curious about:

Does the 3rd quarter thing bug people because it's the 3rd quarter? Would it be the same if it were the 2nd, etc?

Also, you guys do realize that last season they were outscored by only .4 points (17th best and better than GSW and DAL) in the 3rd? Everyone remembers the LAL game, but that is one game out of 82. The numbers just don't back up the "Always get run out of the gym in the 3rd" narrative.

Now this season they have been bad in the 3rd.

1. No one thinks Anderson will turn this team into a contender, but it is just willful ignorance to discredit the effect he will have on the offense. He's that good on offense.

Yes, he is not a particularly good defensive player, but he isn't a sieve like some pretend. He tries and he understands his responsibilities. You don't play as much as he did for some good Orlando teams under SVG if you don't know what you're doing on defense.

2. Agree completely. They play him like he's Vasquez on offense and he isn't. That doesn't mean Holiday can't be a useful player, but he isn't the ball dominant creator we're used to seeing. Gordon and Davis are the engines of the offense. The sooner the staff realizes it, the better things will look.

3. Evans has been bad. Part injury, part bad teammates, and part just shitty play. Anderson will be huge for him. You don't think swapping Anderson for Thomas will help Evans run the 2s? If it doesn't he simply forgot how to play basketball once he signed this summer.

4. Davis isn't going any where for another 6 or 7 years at the earliest. Plenty of time to right the ship this season and beyond.

ETA: grammar for Jester
