We will likely finish outside of the top 25 this season.

And that would be very disappointing. My water mark for this season is 9-3. 8-4 would be a bad season, but given the losses on defense not totally unexpected. I will say this, IF we lose to A&M, I would not be shocked if we laid an egg against Arkansas.

It would be interesting to see if you took LSU's average, end of the year ranking, over the last 10 years and see where that is based on his compensation. Since apparently he is the 7th highest paid coach, on average, is his team ranked close to 7th over the last 10 yrs.

2005-2012 Coaches: 5, 3, 1, ur, 17, 8, 2, 12.
2013: strong finish 12-15? poor finish UR

SO, without 2008 (I don't know how that is calculated) an average almost exactly 7. Figure in 2008 and let's say 2013 15? (hopefully)that would be what? dunno.

So why would anyone be complaining about what Miles is making? Over the time he has been at LSU he is making about what he should be.

Use 26(best case scenario) for 2008 and the average is 9.25

3 sec west titles in ten years is more realistic.

3 Lsu
3 bama
1 eatme
1 auburn
1 ark
1 wildcard

Now top ten finishes should be a normal finish. Top 20 finish nine out of ten.

How would that change anything?LSU would probably have another NC in 2011 if Saban were still in the NFL and LSU probably wins the West in 2009 with a chance for a SEC championship. My only point is that Saban's success has limited Miles success to a point.

Just how much do you feel the limitations will be in the future ? And I'm not talking about just losing to Satan.

I don't the know the answer to that question. But I will say the more success Saban has over Miles makes it easier for him to recruit LA. Any coach in the SEC, especially the West will have limitations because of Saban's extraordinary success. 2011 was the game changer. IF Bama does not make it to BCS game then Miles and Saban are on a level playing field.

So if salary:poll finish is an useful measurement(I don't know if it is), then about right. Hopefully this is an off year, we finish stron and regroup for next.

re: Realistic Expectations for LSU football over a decade

How would that change anything? No, he would not have, UNLESS he wins a SEC title next year which I highly doubt. Miles has been here 9 years. We are using a miles 10 year tenure as the example here. Not sure why you are referring to Nicky Bling.

Unless you want to use his 3 NC's in the last 4 years as a comparator. Or his 3 NC's in 6 years as well. This year being his 7th year.

saban has still met the expectations on sec titles that we expect here. he has 2 in 6 years. that is 1 every 3 years. Which is exactly what we are talking about here. Then yes of course he has blown NC expectations out of the water at bama with 3 in 6 years.

I see what you were implying earlier though. You think if Saban was not here we win it all in 2011 and maybe make it to atlanta in 2012 for a shot at a 3rd sec title in 9 years right? we will never know that and that is why we cannot use assumptions like that. It would have been great though no doubt about it. Then miles would have had 3 sec titles in 9 years(if he won last year, which is our expectations) and possibly 2 nc's.

re: Realistic Expectations for LSU football over a decade

I understood the discussion. Unlike you, I focused on the "Realistic Expectations" part. You seem to want to equate your "standards" to your expectations. They aren't the same. LSU should aspire to a conference championship every year. If they don't we have a problem. But is it realistic to expect a conference title 3 times a decade, with the facilities, Louisiana talent pool, etc., that we have? Nope. There are far too many variables to make such an expectation realistic. The last ten years has created an arrogant fan base here and has, for the weak minded, created unrealistic expectations for success, given the conference we are in. Demanding 3 conference titles each decade sets a standard that nobody in the country can meet. You and those like you have become the equivalent of the Alabama fan base, without the national titles. That's what makes you a dumbass.

re: Realistic Expectations for LSU football over a decade

3 SEC titles in 10 years is completely unrealistic.

Alabama has the most SEC titles with 23 and that works out to be about 3.2 a decade.

And they have the most by a wide margin.

1-2 SEC titles over a decade is what the rest of the SEC powers should be expecting (UF, UT, UGA, LSU, AUB)
