How did Malone look last night?

I'll agree that he won't ever amount to anything but a bench player at LSU, however to say he played terrible last night isn't fair to him.
It isn't looking great for him, but I also thought at one time that Chris Johnson, THE Magnum Rolle, and Storm Warren wouldn't be able to consistently contribute and I was wrong. Sometimes the light eventually comes on.

Unfortunately, not great. Not quite as smooth as I hoped, however he proved to me he can run the court. His defense was okay but not great. He got fouled a few times but only went 1 for 4 from the FT line.
Him and Odo running the court showed me we can still run up tempo with either of them in.

Odo
Unfortunately, his rawness on the offensive side was not overstated.

Fair enough. I'm really not trying to bash the kid. I was just hoping to see a little more at this point. Not sure about his upside
Typically, foreign players have steeper learning curve when going to the college game (which is why I'm not as high on Malone as SoS is). I think he can develop in the good player, and he'll have the opportunity to do so practicing against our very deep team.

At least he knew it. He didn't force up shots. He was a rebound machine.I actually liked the way he played. 5 offensive rebounds is impressive in 15 minutes.

He needs to be more assertive when going for rebounds. He got pushed around a bit and even Hickey took a rebound from him.

That's good to hear. I wasn't worried about Odo, but I kind of expect Malone to take some time before the game clicks for him.

btw in case you didnt know Odo is Hultbergs man.

Definitely. I think he will be a solid piece next season, but he still needs to add strength and work on getting to the ball once he has position. Odo has an uncanny ability to locate the basketball during rebound opportunities.

You're exactly right. The kid played within himself. I had held out some hope that he had some offense. If he had an offensive game, though, wow. I'm not sure what opposing teams could do with him.

True. I'm just not even sure what raw abilities he has shown to develop. He has good size, obviously. I'll try and hold off judgment.

Also very true. He surely won't be thrown into the fire.

I loved the way he played. He's gonna be huge for us on the boards.

again disagree. if his last name wasnt hammink i doubt he would have a scholarship.
me and my buddy at the game said the exact same thing. dude is just not a D1 SEC player…would be a nice player at a school like Tulane…I would grade him as a D last night.

Start hitting free throws and they might actually beat some high quality opponents.

We didn't hit free throws last year, had a tuba player starting at center and still won 19 games. I agree FT shooting is a concern, but us winning games against quality opponents won't hinge on it.

We are gonna have to do better on the FT line to beat the top 2 SEC teams. I mean 45% is plain terrible.
