After the recent comments from Brandon Merriweather LINK
quote:

I guess I just have to take people's knees out," Meriweather said. "That's the only way. I would hate to end a guy's career over a rule, but I guess it's better other people than me getting suspended for longer. You just have to go low now, man. You've got to end people's careers. You got to tear people's ACLs and mess up people's knees. You can't hit them high anymore."
I was wondering what this years WR injury list looks like and what injuries they are sustaining. So far this year, across all position, the NFL has sustained 54 lower leg season ending injuries. 30 players have already been placed on injured reserve this season because of confirmed torn ACLs, a pace that has already exceeded the total for all of 2011 and has nearly done the same for 2012.

Should we become far more concerned that the new rules in place are creating far more disastrous results to the ability to walk in the future? NFL players already have difficulty with it soon after retirement. It seems that now, far more will be in wheelchairs at the age of 30.

I've said before. You've got bigger, faster guys whose explosiveness is putting more strain on their skeletal system/connective tissue than at any point in the history of the game. You are now spreading the field more and having them run more across the field/down the field than at any point. You are now throwing the ball more which causes longer games with more plays than the traditional pound it out games played in close quarters. You are eliminating guys hitting high.

You're going to get a lot more lower leg injuries.

Only solution is to institute a weight limit. Like peewee football. Too much weight + speed is going to mean injuries. Period.
