I prefer gen4 due to being left handed. I also like the gen4 has a bigger mag release, and you can change out the back straps

did they fix the issues with the recoil spring completely?

Gen 2 without the finger grooves is my favorite.

Pretty sure that was only an issue if you were using lower power rounds for plinking and training.

1. I carry the Gen 2 -- because I had carried it for yaaers before the Gen 3's were released.
2. I'm comfortable that the Gen 4 problrems with the recoil spring//guide rod assemblies have been fixed. As was stated, this was an issue with range ammo -- but hey, that's what we practice with.
3. The Gen 4 makes great sense for lefties -- because the mag release can be swapped to the other side of the frame.
4. For righties, I'd still take a Gen 3 any day over a Gen 4. The trigger is smoother, and there are more options for customizing a Gen 3. One of the biggest options is the Advantage Arms Conversion Kit (AACK) that enables you to shoot .22LR ammo through your Glock. While the Gen 3 kits are readily available, the Gen 4 kits are impossible to find.
5. Not sure if this has changed, but Bowie Outfitters in BR was only stocking Gen 3's throughout most of this year. That's what everone wanted, and there was little demand for the Gen 4's.

Think the biggest concern is that the a Gen 4 can only take the two notch mags if you set it up for left hand shooting. Not really much of an issue since all the new mags Glock is producing now are compatible. Even if you buy a Gen 3 you are probably going to get the new mags with it.

I've tried both. I still like the Gen 3 better. It's just a better fit in my hand and find the RTF on the Gen 4 to be just a little too much.

Having carried a block for duty use over ten years.....I was amazed with the M&P.

Only thing I don't like are their factory triggers. But the boys at Apex Tactical have made one hell of a trigger kit for them. My M&P is a damn tack driver.
