My concession about the state of the program

I've never been a "Negatiger", but neither have I considered myself to be a "Sunshine pumper". Probably a good bit closer to a sunshine pumper, but really somewhere in the middle.
I finally resigned myself yesterday to our lot in life with our current regime. I think Les Miles is a GREAT person and a really good coach. However, as recently as just a couple of years ago I had myself believing he was the best coach in the nation. Well, it is ABUNDANTLY clear that this is nowhere near the truth.
The funny thing is, when I say it happened yesterday, I don't even mean last night watching that garbage of a first half. It was actually while watching the first half of the Alabama-Tennessee game and thinking back to our game against Ole Miss. The Furman game last night was just the cherry on top I guess.
2011 was lightning in a bottle. I had hoped it was the beginning of a run of years of dominant play, but it was the exception and we are right back to where we were before it. The CONTINUAL inconsistency that this program shows on the field has finally just beaten me down and I'm conceding.
And of course, the true dagger is that sonofabitch in Tuscaloosa having that program humming along like a fricking MACHINE, just destroying teams, while we wallow around, playing down to Furman and losing to a depleted fricking Ole Miss. There is no fricking excuse for that bullshite!!!
I had hoped that 01/09/12 would just be a temporary setback and we would bounce back from it quickly. Turns out, it looks like it was just the beginning.
As much as I've defended Miles over the years and truly pulled for him, it just can't be denied any longer that there is one person and one person only responsible for the continued, infuriating inconsistency that we see on the field. And no, I'm not calling for a firing and I don't know who we would replace him with, blah, blah, blah. I'm just voicing my extreme discouragement as someone who used to be firmly in his camp. As for answers; Hell, I have none.

Not to mention the recruits we are losing out of Louisiana to Bama...have to keep all Louisiana talent, and that has not happened as of late...

We are like all the other teams, hoping to be compared to Alabama.

This should go well. Your thread title will get anchored however.

Like sands through the hour glass....these are the fans of our team.

welcome to the side of the logical posters my friend.

Bottom line, he brings nothing to the table on game day. Guys like Spurrier, Urban and Saban bring a swagger and are able to take over X's and O's and put a talented team in a better position to win over an equally talented team. How can you justify that salary when you can't provide on pay day. Great guy, kids love him, he'd be an excellent recruiting coordinator or player personel guy.

It's really difficult for any LSU fan with eyes to dispute this.

There is only one Nick Saban.

I feel exactly as you do. I like Miles, think he is great family guy and would make a great college coach if college was truly amateur sport as it was 20+ years ago.
Now its a minor league. Now its a place where big arsehole coaches seem to do well.
I would love to see what Shiano could do at LSU but it won't happen. Miles isn't going anywhere until the cupboard is completely bare.
Alleva really needs to go first IMO

LSU jax: Good post and I completely agree! Especially with this point right there:
quote:. We are who we are under Miles. 2nd rate. He will not change and he cannot get better.

I think Les Miles is a GREAT person
I agree with most of your post but why do LSU fans continually make this statement?
The reputation that Miles earned during his time at Michigan, Colorado, Dallas and Oklahoma State does not support this. Not at all. Not personally or professionally.

I accepted a few years ago that he was completely braindead when it comes to time management and someone needs to help him with this. Perhaps a child who plays Madden a lot.
But it did take me a while to accept that he has an accurate label and that's the way it is. Miles is an excellent recruiter and with LSU's program we are almost guaranteed 8 or 9 wins a year just by "out talenting" teams. Then there are 4 or so that you actually have to really work at and we seem to lose 3 of those a year.
Bama 2010 and tOSU 2007(8) remain Miles' crowning achievements IMO. There is no reason to think we can't beat Bama some years and win the SEC and therefore have a shot at the 4 team playoff that is upcoming. As long as Saban is coaching at Bama, we will be their bitch most of the time.
I still think he is probably the third best coach in the country. It goes Saban, Urban Meyer, then about 10 coaches could go into that #3 slot.

I've done this before. Conceded a game. LSU almost always surprises me when I do.

being steamrolled in tuscaloosa and losing a nail biter to aggy at home will mark a new low for miles. curious to see how our fanbase deals with that. i hope i'm wrong, but this team doesn't have the experience, chemistry, or discipline to win those two games.
having to start over on offense next year while alabama is doing the same will be telling. i think that the separation will only widen at that point. and we're pretty much set up to drop some games to other teams in the conference over the next two years as well. we will not sniff another chance at an sec championship for a while, folks. the thought of winning another national championship under miles is laughable at this point.
