The taxpayers, not just ULL fans, own ULL. We decide the name.
As a taxpayer, my opinion is that a school named "University of Louisiana" should be academically worthy of that designation. ULL isn't. Now it's not all their fault...they only get so much in appropriation and they have a mission to educate Acadiana to fullfill. But that's what the owners of the school decided the mission should be. Further, they still divert $7 million or so from the general fund/academics to the football team, so it's not like academics is their number 1 priority.
As for calling themselves Louisiana for athletics, I don't know what that would get them, but that doesn't bother me. But I also don't believe that's the limit to what they're doing.
