I've come across a few people on here, well just 1 really, who's opinion on whether a rapper is real is decided by if they sold drugs. Not where they grew up, not by the people around them, not by how poor the family was, Ect...

By that reasoning, I've got a few good friends who must be the realist and hardest thugs around since they sold drugs back in the day. Yea the parents had money, went to all private schools, drove nice cars the parents paid for, and so on

But, these motherfrickers were slangin some dope to college kids, so if anyone has a problem with that I got some real frickin Gs on my side ya heard me!

If you grew up in Marcy Projects but stayed inside all day playing Sega, are you still "real"?
If you grew up in Marcy Projects and your neighbors sell dope, gang bang, etc., but you stay inside your apartment and don't associate yourself with them, does that make you "real"?
If your family is poor, does that make you "real"? If that's the case, there are a shite ton of kids all over the globe that fit your criteria for "real".

"realist and hardest thugs" has nothing to do with selling drugs.

There are already too many different opinions on what people define being real is. Completely subjective. Now being fake is easy.

Rick Ross rapped about selling drugs, shootings, and took his name from a major cocaine dealer. He was a correctional officer. Fake

Lil Wayne, been rich since he was 13, has been able to be out of a hard life forever, claims Piru, almost gets his butt whipped in LA by bloods, and runs away (can't hate someone from running from at the very least a beating from multiple people though). Fake

Jamie Foxx, all about the black power shite, banging the whitest of white girls. Fake

I don't think the Beastie Boys ever sold drugs and they're iconic rap/hip hop figures.
