I would have more respect for the bowl bans if they took them before the year began. I think when you are 7-4 or whatever and know you aren't a top 5 team, it's easier to accept a ban.

Does anyone know, ballpark, how much $$$ we are talking about going to illegal recruiting

You're also not taking into account just HOW BADLY the ncaa looked in this case. I'm fairly certain they're just trying to end it with as little egg on their face as possible at this point. Miami self imposing the penalties actually gives them a pretty big out here. Not saying it's completely fair to other programs who have been hit, but it is what it is. Also you can't really use subjective views on the particular bowl /championship bans they imposed. When you start comparing which level bowls they self banned from and their "worth" you make the situation even more complicated. Like sader said they technically banned themselves from a acc title game and shot at bcs bowl money so that's a pretty big deal.
