Unfortunately for them it doesn't matter the harmlessness and therapeutics of the drug it is against team rules and is a fire-able offense depending on who you are to the team. What he should have said instead is;

If I were a professional athlete I'd be paying very close attention to team rules!!!!

Houston radio says the 3 were smoking a cigar, not Weed. I live in Houston and this has been the story all day on talk radio

Smoking "A" cigar...when do three guys smoke "A" cigar.
Secondly, you can tell the difference in smell between the two.

Lastly, why do people who are given everything and are set for life, throw it away?

Wonder if Karnell Hatcher and Derrick Bryant were in the hotel room. I heard that a security guard heard someone was trying to forcefully gain entry to the room and that's what brought attention to the firestorm in the room.

OK.. like weed by itself isn't a HORRIBLE offense. Thats what I meant. Breaking the rules is inexcusable.

In an ideal world maybe this is true. Do you think these guys are cut if they were starters or significant contributors? Is using steroids against team rules?

First we don't live in an ideal world. Second there are different rules for different players anyone who has ever played a team sport understands that. Aldon Smith is a perfect current example to answer your question, and the answer is No they would not have been cut if they were significant contributors. But you have to assume they have brains, so they need to put them in gear and understand since they aren't significant contributors at this moment the last thing they should do is rock the boat especially when that boat is in stormy seas like the Texans are currently.

No one said life is fair, and fair or not they got cut because they were f*cking stupid.

So smoke weed( allegedly) = violation of team rules and cut.
Do steroids, get popped, six game suspension and welcome back kid!

This. If the players were going to be contributors, they wouldn't have gotten kicked off the team. 2 UDFAs and an out of shape Montgomery, make it easy for Kubiak to get rid of them.

So, what's the NFL going to do when a player for Seattle or Denver (where it's now legal) turns up with a positive test result? That'll be interesting...

ETA: The whole idea behind the ban on steroids, stimulants, and PED's is that they give the user an unfair competitive advantage. Weed isn't in that category; the ban is purely a moral bias and politically motivated.

Yeah I understand this and all, but I'm just tired of the insane and childish laws and rules. Sure, it's a team rule...a team rule that doesn't make a lot of sense and wouldn't exist if weed were legal as it should be. It's frankly not an employer's business until it affects the employee's work. If they didn't like Sam's work ethic or production, then deal with that aspect. Everyone in this country is so damn nosy and holier than thou.

Don't hide it. Cut it up and divide it.
Sam must REEEEEEALY like herb huh? Wow. Sounds to me like his coach was just waiting for him to mess up and now they can terminate his contract. Coach wanted to get out from under paying Sam that "big money" so he cut him.
