Were we better without Loston?

It's hard to tell when there are so many issues that need improvement.

i hate to trash a player AND i'm no football genius but my impression of him has never been that good. plus he gets injured every game. he just doesn't seem to have very good "instinct" on the field. i admit to not ever watching game film on him though.

no
edit:
Murray was a very good QB with all day to pick apart our d. Loston was out of place but it is impossible to cover everyone when the QB has that much time.
If we are going to see any improvement it is going to be from our a d line generating a pass rush.

Even though he took bad angles earlier this year, we are better with him. Experience is needed on that side of the ball.

More of our fans should admit to this as well. Everyone else is an armchair QB/HC/DC/OC. Loston has dealt with injuries pretty much throughout his career - unfortunately our other CB/DB's aren't performing either.

He's not a difference-maker.

Martin finally played like i thought hes capable of playing last night. Had a rough season with his father passing away, but really played good last night.

This... and, Loston has to support the run given the linebackers we have.

Martin looked terrible as always. Having horrible running QBs for MSU can make anyone look competent for one half.

Thompson looked pretty raw, but he is the future at that position and will get better. I feel bad for Loston, but a guy that cant stay healthy is a liability. Play the guy that you can count on to play and let Poppa be a leader, on the sideline.

I thought Martin looked better.

I've never thought Loston was that great, which is why I was puzzled as to why he was trying to leave last year.
I don't remember his HS rating but I remember him being pretty highly rated. I don't think he lived up to the rating.
I don't think our D would be any worse off without him.

I didn't see one occasion where there was a WR running with ZERO white jerseys near him deep...so yeah, I think we were better without him last night. The defense sucked in the first half, but it wasn't near the confusion in the secondary as the UGA game. You can't credit Murray for having guys running wide open with no defender within 10 yds of him.

Haha really Maximus?? IMO, Martin was the 1 DB that actually played well last night. White and RR had flashes of being great, but also had their bad plays. They will be awesome though. I thought he and Kwon played the best on our D last night.

He's a great run supporter but his pass cover skills leave something to be desired. So we lose something with him in and lose something when he's out.

This. And I would rather have a S that is better in pass coverage than run support.

I do not think Loston's presence or absence was the source of the defensive issues. He will likely improve at the same rate as the rest of the defense. Let us hope that the defensive effort in the second half of the game against Mississippi State is not aberration.

Morris Claiborne was pretty crappy when he was younger. He's now an nfl stud. Give the chief a little time to do his job with these guys.
