Sometimes I wonder why I read this board. Posts like this remind me why I do. Some folks out there know what they're talking about. Thanks.

Dalton my favorite LSU player... I was a freshman when he was a senior and remember seeing him wearing a pair of sweats that would have been baggy on any one else but looked like he was wearing under armour. Incredible... Ronnie Lott said he had so much leg power he hit harder the second time than most backs on the first.

Good Times!!!!

I was fortunate enough to be at the Bama game at Legion Field that year. Might be my favorite game, since we had not beaten them in a long time.

Many here are too young to remember Dalton as an LSU player, but that guy was phenomenal. No LSU running back since, maybe excluding Kevin Faulk, has ever been as good.

Hilliard and James are as good a duo as LSU has ever had.

12 years, according to the link provided. Tigers D shut 'em down for the most part - IIRC, I don't think they had a first down until well into the second half

Hillard will always be my favorite tiger. The screen at Florida was when I became obsessed with LSU football.

Excellent link.

They somehow didn't cover the game after the FSU win.

That first, 11 yard, TD was a jaw dropping run. We knew what we had suspected - we had a superstar. Emmett Smith, Barry Sanders - the list is short, of guys who ran as well as Hilliard within 10 yards of the los. Now, once downfield, he didn't have the speed to outrun LBs.

Great post and some great memories, thanks my friend. This was the team that sent Bear Bryant into retirement, so happy to see him go. I also remember reading an article that year about Dalton when he was in high school. He went to a doctor in Natchez I believe (wasn't he from the Vidalia area?). Anyway, the doctor had him sitting on the table and had him raise his lower leg up and was blown away. The doc got his nurse to come look at the muscles and veins in the legs of a 16 year old high school football player. Doc said he had never seen anyone like that in his life. Now we know how Dalton was able to run over linebackers at times even though he was in the 5'8" 188" range. Until Kevin Faulk came along he had replaced Brad Davis as my favorite LSU halfback. Great years to be a tiger fan.

Hilliard was our pint sized Earl Campbell.

I didn't realize he was as small as he is until I saw him at work. I wouldn't want to tackle him even now.

I remember this game quite well as it was not available on tv in Houston, where I was living at the time. It was an afternoon game, so the strong nighttime signal from WWL was of no help. I proceeded to drive toward Beaumont until I could hear the game on my car radio.

I remember that game well. That was the first year I really started watching the tigers.

but that's the truth most here are way too young to remember. That was 31 years ago! Many on here weren't born until the 90's. I know it's hard for old folks like us to realize how much time has gone by since out glory days. I of course will never forget Hilliard. My favorite LSU player.

Reading these posts brings back great memories of that magical year. 82 was one our best teams ever. Still don't know how that team lost to Miss St. And Tulane. Best road trips after all these years as an LSU Alum and student were the FL and Bama games of 82 because nobody expected us to win, and we flat out dominated them both.

This is true if you tried to tackle him low those tree trunks would just plow you over. Like trying to tackle an oak tree. If you tried to hit him high his lower leg power was so strong he would just carry you. The only thing you could do was try to take him out at his feet.

Great comparison
