I have a question:

I plan on watching a lot of Red Wings games this year since they are out of the west, and there won't be as many 9:30 starts. I don't want to go all out and get Center Ice, but is there a cheaper type of....like smart phone app, or computer streaming thing that I can get that streams and possibly archives (it doesn't necessarily have to archive) games? That's the kind of thing that I am interested in purchasing.

Nhl gamecenter is what you are looking for. $150 though, but worth it imo.

LET'S GO THRASH...oh wait

I miss the Thrashers, but I still follow them as much as I can. I've also started picking up on the Carolina Hurricanes.

This will be my first season living in a city with a team. Gonna start watching the Stars.

I want to start getting into hockey. I wonder which team I should follow.

We do this every year, and the Hockey Nerds are here to help. First, you should watch everybody and try and decide who you like. It's like the EPL, a team will choose you.

That said, the last four Cup winners are Boston, Chicago, LA, and Pittsburgh. Have some self-respect and don't be a bandwagon jumper. On the flip side, some teams look downright hopeless right now: Calgary, Buffalo, Florida, and Phoenix. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a team, or you're in for miles of depression.

Other than that, it's really what you are looking for in a team and of course, where you live. Last year, my standard recommendation for a hockey newbie was the Blues. I still stand by that, but the Stars might be a fun up and comer to latch onto. Get in on the ground floor and all that.

This game is the crazy pants.

So glad hockey is back.

Agreed! I'm doing some work, so I haven't been able to watch closely, but it seems like Holtby is having a pretty good game with some big saves even though he's given up 3

I love hockey. Boyfriend started pulling for the Blackhawks, even though he knew nothing about hockey and didn't watch it before, just to piss me off. It's working tonight since I'm a Caps fan.

Sucks that they moved. I wasn't a fan, but I would attend games just to see live hockey.

Great opener thus far.

As for a team to latch onto (I'm a Stars fan by default) I'll say that the Kings have both an American captain and goalie. Quick is one of the most exciting to watch goalies in hockey, and with the olympics coming in Feb you'd be familiar with some of 'Mericas best players.

Yeah, they hung Holtby out to dry way too many times. He's made some amazing saves when he was one on one with the shooter. Other than that (the Carlson-Erskine pairing has been especially careless), I'm pretty happy with the Caps effort. This game has been pretty even between two great teams.

Play even with the champs.

The Caps power play is absurdly good. 75% so far. That's sustainable, right?
