I've caught them in the MRGO and at the Fourchon jetties over the years. They like structure, and apparently will come close to relate to it. That said, pretty sure that's not a mangrove snapper. We used to catch those at my grandpa's in Mississippi growing up-I think it is called a grunt. My grandpa used to say people in Mississippi liked to eat grits and grunts.
