Can the receiving team cross the 45 before the ball does?

Of course

Exactly. I think Landry was the closest to the ball. Can you imagine Landry with a full head of steam hitting a kicker looking down at the ground for the ball. You'd have to hope the kicker's parents weren't at the game.

I don't think hand is touching there. I would not have overturned the call either way.

You can't honestly believe this. The kicker reached back and pulled the ball into his body. this is the act of the tuck. Unless you think the ball levitated into his body, he is clearly touching it here.

Auburn also benefited from a very questionable holding penalty wiping out a TD, so the Ref Gods giveth and taketh away. Call it a draw, and that's leaving off ODB's pass interference call.

I was 99% sure. I don't know why teams allow the kicker to keep pulling this shite when they know an onside kick is coming (LSU had the hands team in so they clearly knew it was coming).

I thought it was pretty clear that he touched it too early.

Yeah. Me too. Right from the get go.
Now, I didn't know whether they'd call it...

The announcers got everyone riled because they (incorrectly) kept referring to the position of the player. He may or may not have gone past the 10 yd line, but it's irrelevant. It's the position of the ball. Regular speed and slow-mo both pretty clearly showed that the ball hadn't gone 10 yd. Didn't seem that close.

The kicker is protected from that kind of hit. The receiver had to touch the ball to have caught it. HE was past the line but the ball wasn't pretty simple. The 10 yard mark is a plane like the goal line. I say the 10 yard mark because it won't always be the 45 and yes the receiving team can do as they please regarding advancing on the ball.

....exactly what I predicted had they scored again.

I've seen that run before when the opposing team expected it and broke it for 7 the other way.

...not when actively engaged in the play. They could absolutely light his arse up.

bullshite. I watched it several times in slow motion. The ball was moving. He was moving. The ball was in that area a little bit before he actually pulled it in. I know you're not this dumb.

I thought he touched it and the replay seemed to confirm that.

With the SEC refs and review crew, I was surprised it was overturned because they could've determined that there was not conclusive evidence to overturn call on the field.

Starting to wonder what the call would have been like had that occurred in Tuscaloosa.

I don't wonder at all. I base my conclusion on the past 35 years of sec-al favoritism.

Yeah, that's what I would have expected given how close it was.

Can't advance an onside kick.

I get your take and it well may be correct, but the better bet would be he had touched it to some extent due to proximity.
