I've fished my entire life and never caught one of these, and never actually seen one in person. I know many consider it a trash fish but I'm just happy that I can mark it off my list. I'll tell you what...those suckers are strong as hell, fight to the death and are not hard to clean, contrary to popular opinion.

Mouth of Tchefuncte River in Madisonville around 5pm...Kayak, popping cork 1' under, market shrimp, Kahle hook, PowerPro.

27" long, 12" girth, about 6-7lbs.

Hard to hook when you're catching them regularly.

I imagine she rolled on you a bit, huh?

Those frickers destroy spinner baits. I've had plenty bent to hell because of them.

Caught some monsters on Lake Verret side before Coon Asses started selling the roe. Haven't caught many since.

Last one I caught was with a fiberglass cane pole, (yes I know, but we had a ton of them out on a dock catching white perch and catfish) and it's the only thing I ever saw snap one of those in two.
