Absolutely. God if he and Vince never broke up...

is a 26 PER really a "wow" season?

McGrady had the best shoes ever that aren't Jordan's

I've argued this many times on the msb, T-Mac is definitely a HOFer. I don't see how it's even an argument.

You just went full retard. When you are among the 5-6 best defensive players in the NBA and can provide 20ppg, you are more than "a notch above role player".

Not defensively...he guarded the opposition's best 1/2/3 every night.

Penny Hardaway owns that title.

McGrady was arguably the best SG in the league for a few years but history has him completely overshadowed by Kobe.
Coupled with the fact that he fell off too much too quickly with
the injuries is why he probably won't make it. But he's closer than most think.

and can provide 20ppg,
his career PER was 15.3. that means he was league-average in offensive efficiency
his career best PER was 18.0 (and this was somewhat of an aberration, as he slid back to 15.4 the next year)

at least TMac had a season in the top-5 of defensive win shares

That's a legit line. Not much more he could've done I guess.

Still would not even put him in the same class as these guys during the time. Plus you're forgetting Duncan.

This is a pretty good discussion but I'm amazed that anyone would have issues with Joe Dumars. It makes me wonder how many here actually remember him in his prime.

we can always look up his advanced stats, which i did. his stats don't represent his legend

It's interesting -- in Dumars' best defensive season he wasn't top 20 in Drtg or DWS. MJ and Drexer were 2s (best 2s of that generation) who consistently ranked in those cats, and then there was a guy like Alvin Robertson, a 2 who was a known defensive stopper, who put up similar numbers to Joe and had a higher career PER. Dumars beasted in the '89 NBA Finals against the undermanned Lakers and that cemented his HOF status.

That's probably why there's a pro-Joe bias here.
