I love Scarface but he doesn't really fit into that upper echelon. As influential Rakim was he doesn't either. Eminem,Nas,and Jay Z all refined the genre.

If Lil Wayne died in 2007 he would have been known as releasing two of the best mixtapes ever (Dedication 2 and Da Drought 3 ) and for introducing the phrase "drop it like it's hot." That's about it.
