Now lets talk about potential (I'm doing this lesson to school you on the history of hip hop)
The reason Nas released such a landmark 1st album (one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time) was because of how tough he perceived the scene in NY to be at the time. He knew he had to make a big splash to even be noticed
I miss when artists where hungry like that and not "chosen" from a Canadian kids soap like Degrassi because he's a pretty face

This was at a time when only the best of the best got major record deal because they felt Hip Hop was still a fad that would die out eventually. The majors only signed artist they felt had a chance to push major units.

Nas will always be one of my favorites not just because of his lyrical ability & content in his music but he is the epitome of every true artist that refused to sellout. When he signed Columbia Records they wanted him to fix his teeth & become this bubble gum, pretty boy rapper. Nas refused & did the music he wanted to do.
